Going to alcohol or drug rehab can be a scary prospect, often at a very stressful time. One thing that adds to that stress is the unknown. Questions like: “How am I going to rehab?” “What is rehab like?” “What should I pack for rehab?” need answering before you leave.
If you have any questions about rehab, please don’t hesitate to contact us. We’ve been through the process ourselves and are on hand to answer any questions you may have. We’re here to help make the process as easy and as simple as possible.
While every rehab clinic is different, this list serves as general guide for what to pack. If you are unsure, please call Port of Call and we’ll be happy to help.
Things to pack for rehab
Comfort is key! Try to bring at least a week’s worth of clean clothes. Port of Call can advise further on the laundry facilities at the rehab clinic you are being admitted to – broadly speaking though, most clinics have laundry facilities that you can use. Also pack sports kit and outdoor clothing for attending off-site support meetings or excursions.
Make sure you pack toiletries, but be sure to avoid perfumes or aftershaves that contain alcohol. Many clinics will ask that you don’t bring aerosols of any kind.
Different rehab facilities offer varying amounts of downtime, so check with your Port of Call contact but keep in mind you might want to take some books or magazines to help you rest and recuperate when you’re not busy in treatment.
You should bring with you all prescribed medications.
Phones / laptops
This really depends on the clinic you are attending. Some rehab clinics are quite relaxed about phones; others have a strict no phone policy. If you’re wondering whether you can take your phone into rehab, please give us a call.
What should I pack for rehab?
While the emotional side of things can best be dealt with through routine therapy and regular interactions with those who sincerely care about your wellbeing, what’s to be done about the physical side of things? When it comes to packing and preparing for what’s literally going to happen while enrolled in drug rehab, there are a few things that will need to be left at home.
