Christian organisations that help drug addicts

Addiction can happen to anyone, which is why we make it our prime goal to find a rehabilitation centre that fits the various needs and requirements of each individual. At Port of Call, we have a strong relationship with a wide variety of rehabilitation centres, including Christian organisations that help drug addicts.

Christian help with drug withdrawal

If you’re a Christian in need of a drug rehab centre that can cater to your religious requirements, then we may be able to help you to find a rehab centre that’s perfect for you. Perhaps you aren’t a practising Christian but are looking for the structure that a faith-based rehab programme, such as Christian help with drug withdrawal, can offer. In both cases a Christian drug rehab programme, based on the 12-step principles of Narcotics Anonymous (adapted from Alcoholics Anonymous), could be the ideal fit for you.

Christian organisations that help drug addicts

If you didn’t already know, the 12-step principle, a central pillar of NA and AA’s philosophy, stems from Christian origins. AA itself sprang from The Oxford Group, a non-denominational movement, modelled after first-century Christianity, that was influenced by the temperance movement. AA shares the view that acceptance of one’s inherent limitations is critical to finding one’s proper place among other humans and God. While NA isn’t strictly religious-based, the word God is mentioned in their readings too, because they believe every addict needs a higher power to help in the process of recovery.

In the case of AA meetings, one study found an association between increased attendance at meetings with increased spirituality and a decrease in the frequency and intensity of substance abuse. The research also found that AA was also effective at helping agnostics and atheists to become sober. However, the authors did note that though spirituality was an important mechanism of behavioural change for some addicts, it wasn’t the only effective mechanism.
